I never could have imagined that it would happen to me, of all people. The story started creeping in and then the account was empty. Not just empty, but in a big minus. I'm simply broke and desperate.

Business was booming and I was the star tarot reader on a TV channel. Customers called in. It was all an incredible self-runner. I earned not just four figures a month, but even five.

The IRS held its hand out firmly, or rather I should say "its hands." The top tax bracket, and that pretty much says it all. In the middle of every month I was, so to speak, always nicely laying the cards for the IRS. I still have my sense of humor.

But how did it come to this? The industry collapsed. People became more skeptical and the press spoke of charlatans. The market boomed and every housewife thought she could now predict the future. But that's far from true.

Self-Employed Means Self and Constantly

I had imagined it too easy and thought "broke and desperate" not for me. But one thing is certain: everything in life changes. And so revenue collapsed. There's one cake and it can only be divided up. But it wasn't just a few new advisors joining each month. There were thousands, and the cake was still the same.

So earnings really melted away. I didn't want to admit it, and only when it was too late did I truly recognize it. There should have been four pillars in my life instead of one. Because what's going well today doesn't have to still be going well in four months. Life can often change quickly.

For example through:

  • Illness
  • Accident
  • family care becoming necessary
  • and much more

Being broke and desperate can hit anyone and nobody can be sure here. It feels to me as though our world has become ever more fast-moving, and what still looks normal and good today is simply gone tomorrow.

I cried a lot and then came to the conclusion "broke and desperate" has happened, but now I'm getting up. Straighten my crown and carry on.

Broke and desperate

And Tomorrow Morning It Will Shine Again - the Sun

I've learned and I know that I need many pillars. Because when one pillar no longer runs really well, the next one or the one after that steps in. I've also been allowed to learn that there is no security in life, and in the future I will definitely save. The emergency fund has to exist from now on, because I had none at all and it would have helped me. Broke and desperate wouldn't have happened like this.
