Making a lot of money fast with Instagram

As a brand-new college student, it quickly dawns on me: I need more money. I had imagined this being a bit easier. Boston is more expensive than I thought. I grew up in a small town in Ohio, where prices are completely different, from rent to a night out at the local bar. I figured things would be different here, but like this?

  • Rent
  • Utilities
  • Textbooks
  • Groceries
  • Going out
  • Clothes

Everything is just expensive, and my parents are ordinary employees and I don't want to burden them more than necessary. So it's clear: I have to make a lot of money fast. My friend said, let's do something on Instagram, because you can make a lot of money fast that way. But with what, exactly? If we do it, we should stand out!

We quickly hit our limits and didn't come up with any really good ideas. Travel blogs would mean we'd first have to actually travel. It quickly became clear that we weren't going to make it this way, and that making a lot of money fast was an illusion for us.

Making a lot of money fast with YouTube

Maybe YouTube will work. What we can do is sing well. We mustered up our courage, recorded each other and covered old songs by Sade and stars of the 80s. Modern and freshly reinterpreted, we put our songs online, and we got a bit lucky and gradually racked up a few thousand views. I can't yet confirm that you can make a lot of money fast this way, but we're sticking with it.

Making a lot of money fast can also be exhausting - my brother shows how it's done

My brother has been studying in Boston for a while and earns his money working at big summer music festivals. He can make a lot of money fast that way, a few thousand dollars in 14 days. It dawned on us that making a lot of money fast can also involve sweat and serious physical effort.

He recently put us in touch with a contact, and at the next festival we'll be part of the crew, behind the scenes. We'll keep at it with social media, but we're also going to see how we can earn money at the next festival.

My brother smiles at us and says we can keep trying on YouTube, but it would be a good idea if we got a reality check. Making a whole lot of money fast will be the case here, but so will some seriously sore muscles.

That's student life! You pay your dues before you reap the rewards! My grandma is right, as always!
