A healthy portfolio is a colorful mix. That's my experience after 30 years. Bottom line, I've pocketed solid gains. There were losses too. The so-called tuition fee! Which stocks to buy now, nobody can really predict to 100%.

But following the daily market news is certainly a good tip. Every investor has their own strategy for which stocks to buy now are right. Imagination is always part of the market. Buying stocks is a bet on tomorrow! How much imagination is a given stock credited with!

Online retail keeps rising. Is it enough that a doubling can still happen here? Alternative energy - how will the values develop?

Uncertain times, in my view, call for a colorful bouquet of stocks in your portfolio!

  • Online retail
  • Utilities
  • Food
  • Medical technology
  • S&P 500 and mid-cap stocks
  • Biotechnology
  • etc.

The really hot tip?!

I've become careful when I get a really hot tip from acquaintances. I look at the companies closely. I put them under the microscope and compare the 5-year chart. As long as I don't see the potential in the stock myself, I'd rather keep my hands off it! I've also been annoyed when a stock doubled in a year. That's part of the experience too.

I didn't inherit a fortune, so I can't put in so-called play money. I set aside $500 every month so I can add a new stock every six months. I also take profits and reinvest them. But more just isn't possible. So I think very carefully about which stocks to buy now are right for me.

Hands off highly speculative securities

I was once recommended a highly speculative security. I thought: "If he's investing, it will surely work out!" It backfired badly. I was still able to prevent a total loss. But 60% of my stake was gone. Which stock to buy now, I'd rather leave to my own research or my own sense of the stock's potential.

You can't avoid learning lessons on the stock market. I like listening to the commentary of traders at the New York Stock Exchange. They have a lot of experience, and I take notes and follow the developments.

The market goes up and down. Keeping your nerve is important. Which stocks to buy now - the decision is up to each person. I would in any case choose at least three different sectors with stocks that aren't highly speculative. Look closely at the companies and what success curve they've delivered so far.
